Child
Sponsorship Scheme?>?> As a charity, we recognise that helping the poor in
Romania means far more than financial assistance. Practical support is needed too, not just for individuals, but
for the whole family. Our Child
Sponsorship Scheme is designed to address this need, because regular support
often helps families to keep their child / children in full time education
for longer. Every month, children
from the poorest and most needy Romanian families receive a food parcel from
us, paid for by a UK sponsor, containing essential provisions. The contents vary according to the season,
but typically include products such as flour, oil, powdered milk, cereal,
pasta, vitamin supplements, shampoo, soap and toothpaste. We also try to ‘boost’ parcels at
Christmas with something a little more special that the families could never
otherwise afford. In recognition of their valuable support, sponsors receive
letters from their child approximately three times per year, and a
‘Sponsorship Report’ containing further details about their family
situation, development in school and other important news. Sponsors are of course free to write to
their child at any time, but typically around birthdays and at
Christmas. Cards and letters are
translated by our aid workers before being passed on. The Child Sponsorship Scheme is an important part of the
ongoing work of Couriers for Christ – UK, and allows supporters to ‘connect’
with our work in a more personal way.
Becoming a sponsor not only allows you to play a vital part in this
particular aid project, but also to see the difference that it makes to the
lives of a poor Romanian family. At
present, it costs £15 per month (payable by Standing order) to become a child
sponsor. |
